When our library's golf cart started becoming less reliable and less available, the USF Tampa Library ILL department determined it was time for a change. Last year we proposed the purchase of a bicycle for library services. My presentation will discuss our Interlibrary Loans department, our Pronto Document Delivery program and our quest to make a change.
I will touch upon the details of our Pronto service and how it was developed in and outside of ILLiad to directly deliver materials. I will also discuss the process of initiating this new phase of Pronto, including bicycle vs. golf cart, bicycle/tricycle research findings, pros and cons of each style of cycle, policy and liability issues, funding, results of preliminary use, and feedback.
On an average day, our department processes hundreds of requests. Having fast, safe and reliable transportation is the key to our Pronto service’s success.
